Liberate Tate continues to protest oil funded arts

March 7, 2011

Liberate Tate will be one of the many artists featured in 6 Billion Ways, an event aimed at informing and mobilizing a wide range of people on local and global justice issues. The event takes place on Saturday, March 5 at Rich Mix in London.

They will be joined by PLATFORM and Art Not Oil.

“Across the world, ordinary people are paying the price for crises they are not responsible for,” they state as reason for their involvement. “Climate change caused by the rich world is devastating the poor world through flooding and droughts. A financial crisis caused by the greed of the big banks is resulting in unprecedented cuts to public services in Europe, and worsening poverty around the world.”

Liberate Tate is a network of artists taking creative diobedience against Tate Britain until it drops its funding from oil companies. We first wrote about them last spring when they launched balloons carrying fake oil covered birds at Tate Modern’s 10th anniversary.
